PlastOut Launch: Scouts Pioneering a Plastic-Free Kericho
#LetsMakeKerichoPlasticFree #GreenerCleanerKericho
On Saturday, June 28th, 2025, the Scouts of Kericho made a bold environmental statement by launching the PlastOut initiative—a youth-led movement aimed at eliminating plastic pollution and promoting sustainable living in our communities.
Held at the Kericho Teachers Training College, the launch brought together over 50 Scouts—Jasiri Scouts, united by one mission: a greener, cleaner Kericho.
Leading by Example
Plastic pollution continues to threaten ecosystems, communities, and public health. In response, the Scouts—guided by SDG goals on climate action, sustainability, and responsible consumption—have chosen to act. PlastOut is our call to reduce single-use plastics, lead clean-up drives, and educate the public on better waste management.
The launch began with a clean-up activity at KTTC, showcasing the scouts' commitment to action. We didn’t just talk about change—we created it.
Collaboration and Support
We are deeply grateful to the Ainamoi Sub-county leadership and the Sub-county Commissioner’s office for their mentorship and continued support. Their partnership shows the power of uniting youth with government to solve real challenges.
We also thank the Kenya Scouts Association HQ Programs Office for their oversight and encouragement, confirming PlastOut's strategic role in national youth development and environmental leadership.
Just the Beginning
PlastOut is more than an event—it’s a movement. Scouts will continue leading clean-ups, advocating for sustainable alternatives, and inspiring change through local action. This is our duty as scouts and responsible citizens.
We believe in the power of youth. We believe in the possibility of a plastic-free Kericho. And we believe that if we each do our part, we can turn the tide on pollution.
Let’s make this our rallying cry:
Greener. Cleaner. Kericho.
