Over the weekend, I took a significant step in my Scouting journey as I facilitated at the Introductory Course for new Scout Leaders, serving as a Tutor for the first time. It was truly a memorable and meaningful experience for me, filled with both excitement and nervousness. From the moment I stepped into the training space, I felt honoured to be part of a process that helps shape and prepare leaders who will guide and inspire young people. At the same time, I experienced the normal nerves that come with facilitating for the first time — questioning whether I would deliver effectively, engage participants well, and meet their learning expectations. However, my passion for Scouting and leadership development kept me motivated and focused. As the sessions progressed, I gradually gained confidence and became more comfortable. It was encouraging to see participants actively engaging, asking questions, sharing their thoughts, and showing genuine interest in learning. Watching them grow in understanding reminded me of the importance of training and mentorship within Scouting. The experience also helped me grow personally. It challenged me to prepare thoroughly, communicate clearly, adapt to different learning styles, and think quickly when facilitating discussions. Most importantly, it reminded me that leadership is about service, supporting others, and creating opportunities for people to learn and develop. Overall, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve as a Tutor, for the support from fellow facilitators, and for the positive energy from the participants. This experience has strengthened my passion for training and mentorship, and I look forward to continuing to grow and contribute to leadership development in Scouting.
