Zihuame
On May 5 our Scouter, Jorge, asked all the patrols to do a project so the entire troop could do it, in our patrol we saw a need; in Mexico the indigenous cultures are beginning to disappear, and the indigenous people are being discriminated, so we discovered an association called Zihuame Mochilla, which helps the indigenous community to integrate into the community, without losing their culture. To help them, we helped in a golf tournament on June 25 and 26, on June 25 we made Scout structures so that people would know what we really do in the Scouts, which has nothing to do with what we can see in movies and series (and we learned more about building), and on June 26 we helped in the registration of the tournament and we received $ 25,000 to help Zihuame Mochilla. On August our 4 Scouters went to examine the needs from the community center in Lomas Modelo. On September 6, the ladies from Zihuame came to the place where we go to every Saturday for our Scout activities and they sold handicrafts and they taught people about the different indigenous cultures in Mexico, and Multimedios (a news channel from Mexico) came to record us. Thanks to this, Tirando Esquina and Escalando Fronteras joined in to help us with our project.
On October 27 we went to clean the community center; we swept, weeded and picked up the garbage. On November 18 we went to a meeting to plan the 'posada' ('posadas' are Mexican parties used to celebrate the arrival of Christmas) and on December 1st we went to paint the community center, which inspired the neighbors to organize a cleaning of the neighborhood on December 8, which we couldn't attend. On December 15th, we gathered all the associations, 'Fuerza Civil' (the police) also joined, to make the 'posada'. What we did was get toy donations, and during the 'posada' we gave them to the children who attended. We collected more than 200 toys. To eat, we made chili dogs and delivered them at the same time we delivered the toys to the children. The activities at the 'posada' were the following:
- Clown show
- 'Fuerza Civil' Show
- Handcrafted doll stand
- Piñatas
At the end of the 'posada', we counted the hours and we were happy to see that we had 1,150 hours of service and we benefited 350 people.
