Sprout & Soothe: A Vegetable and Herbal Garden

With the aim to promote environmental stewardship, sustainable living, and community involvement, Senior Scouts from San Juan Baño High School conducted the "Vegetable and Herbal Plants Garden Project” in line with their school’s “Green and Clean Campus” program.

There are 38 Senior Scouts along with their Outfit Advisor who united and started their project back on March 7, 2025. After a series of planning, the outfit have decided to divide their team as they plant various kinds of vegetables and herbals.

Hand in hand with their Outfit Advisor, each group was assigned to be responsible for different tasks: soil preparation, seed planting, and watering plants such as, bitter gourd, eggplant, okra, squash, and tomato. Additionally, herbal plants like lemongrass and oregano were also present.

With their eyes set on one goal—to nurture nature—the Scouts dedicated themselves to maintenance and constant monitoring. As each participant showcased their capabilities to work with each other while they ensure the growth of the plants, their garden flourished. After four weeks of nonstop hard work, their greens have grown healthily.

“Through this project, I learned that planting is not just about growing food—it’s about growing responsibility, patience, and teamwork. This activity strengthened our unity as scouts. We realized that when everyone contributes, even a small garden can bloom beautifully.” -Neithane

Despite encountering multiple challenges along the way, the project eventually ended successfully. During the first yield, the scouts have already harvested 10 kilograms of seven varieties of vegetables and five herbal plants that were shared with their school canteen, school head, and the less privileged students.

Indeed, this project is not just about tree planting. It is not simply growing trees or watering plants. This project was started in order to grow the seed of dedication, teamwork, and patience within the young leaders.
