Scouts Growing Greens for Nourished Minds and Bodies
With strong dedication and willingness, 16 scouts with the guidance of 10 teachers conducted the community service project entitled, “Project LUNTIAN: Scouts Growing Greens for Nourished Minds and Bodies” as part of the Scouting Program of Camba National High School on June 19, 2025.
This project aims to renovate and maintain a productive school-based vegetable garden as they offer support in their school’s feeding program by providing and supplying fresh and nutritious vegetables that will benefit the students in their school who were considered malnourished and are under the feeding program.
At the beginning of their project, the scouts were divided into groups in order to work on different areas such as cleaning, repairing plant boxes, preparing the compost pit, and planting seedlings like eggplant, okra, petchay, and string beans.
In the process of implementing the project, the Scouts have faced different challenges such as the lack of tools and materials, pests, and unfavorable weather conditions. These really forced them to exert extra effort and hard work in maintenance and pest control—promoting perseverance, problem-solving skills, and teamwork.
“Through this project, our Scouts realized that even simple acts like planting and maintaining a garden can create a big impact on the school and the community. The Gulayan sa Paaralan taught them the value of hard work, discipline, and service to others.” Scout Leader Ronald T. Guese, Institutional Head of Camba NHS Scouting Unit
Senior Scouts with the cooperation of their school’s principal, staff, and TLE teachers, the project ended with success. Their garden now serves as a steady source of fresh vegetables for their school’s feeding program, benefiting malnourished students.
This initiative showcased the importance of hard work and team work; they did not just nourish those in need—they also flourished their garden as well as their objective to serve others while empowering each other.
