SCOUTS AGAINST PLASTIC POLLUTION
This community-based coastal cleanup aligns with the 2025 World Environment Day theme by empowering Scouts to take active roles in combating plastic pollution. The initiative fosters environmental responsibility, raises awareness of the impacts of plastic waste on marine ecosystems, and promotes active citizenship. It also reinforces the Scouts' commitment to local service while contributing to global efforts for cleaner, more sustainable coastal communities.
A total of 22 participants conducted a 3-hour cleanup operation, targeting areas of the shoreline affected by accumulated plastic waste. The participants were briefed on safety protocols and waste segregation prior to the cleanup. Armed with gloves, sacks, and tongs, the Scouts combed the coast and successfully collected 67 kilograms of plastic waste, which was sorted and properly disposed of with assistance from the local barangay.
During the cleanup, participants encountered areas heavily littered with microplastics and entangled debris, which required extra care and attention. Despite the heat and humidity, the Scouts showed resilience and discipline, taking short hydration breaks and resuming the task until completion.
