"Scout Support in Civic Mobility"
When traffic police withdrew from the streets on August 5, 2024, due to the post-movement situation, severe traffic congestion disrupted daily life in Sylhet city. As active members of the Rover Scouts, we were inspired to step forward and serve the community. Guided by Sylhet District Rover Scouts, we realized it was our responsibility to ensure smooth civic mobility, reduce public suffering, and demonstrate how youth can lead in times of urban crisis.
Under the guidance of Sylhet District Rover Scouts, we formed a 20-member volunteer team from the Metropolitan University Rover Scout Group. We identified key traffic-congested points in Sylhet city and deployed our team members there from morning to evening. The scouts worked in shifts to help manage traffic flow, assist pedestrians, and raise public awareness. This service was carried out consistently for around 10 days to reduce public suffering and restore road discipline.
Through this project, we learned the power of youth-led community service during times of need. We realized how disciplined teamwork, quick response, and a sense of responsibility can bring order in urban chaos. It taught us the importance of civic duty, empathy, and how small voluntary actions can make a big impact. We also gained practical experience in crisis management, public communication, and leadership.
