reforest

reforest

The land above the BBPL colony comprises of two acres which was earlier planted with cryptomeria japonica and cupressus species. These wood are not native species. As per the executive order of the Ministry of Agriculture and forest, these species were ordered to cut down, therefore the area was cleared. It took a week for the clearance of the tree. These species are said to degrade the soil, and also slows the rate of regeneration affecting the ecosystem. It is also found that these species cause health issues especially for the breathing. Before reforestation, site preparation was done by cutting grasses. Aligning and stacking was done in a day so that while planting the saplings there would be 3m×3m distance as their roots will expand while they grow. Reforestation on the 2acre of land was done with elder, michalia species, erythrina indica, prunus species and avocado. These are hardwood that can be logged in future. They prevent soil erosion, enhance the ecosystem and also anchor the soil. They also help in reducing temperature i.e less land radiation produced.
