Our Majesty during his coronation speech made the following promise, "Throughout my reign I will never rule you as a King. I will protect you as a parent, care for you as a brother and serve you as a son." That's why his Majesty have always looked into the problems of every citizen. Old people without homes and families have been his concern too. Thus, the Old Age Home in southern valley of Thimphu was established by His Majesty.

Scouts from Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law volunteered to spend one of our Saturdays with the old people who are living in the old age home. We took few toiletries and a few packet of juice for them. The Old Age Home was a very beautiful place. We divided ourselves into pairs and went to the rooms of old guys living there. They were very welcoming. Each room had two beds, two wardrobes, a showcase, a pantry, a bathroom attached, a television and a heater during the cold days. The room was very well furnished. We swept, mopped the floors, washed the bathrooms. Some of us also bathed them and a warm tea was served afterward and then did their laundries too. More than us just rendering help to them, we were also interested to listen to their stories of their life. The old people were grateful to us and to His Majesty too.

After we were all done, we had to depart but we were more than excited to visit them again and next time, with some warm clothes and some programs to entertain them. What these old people only need is some warm clothes, heart-aching laughs and some friends beside them to love them.
