Meerkats turn the tide on plastic
This term the Meerkats of 2nd Somerset West are learning about nature, recycling and conservation. Recently, as part of their Mandela Day activities, the Meerkats participated in the National Plastic Tide Turner’s project and took action to clean up the area around their Den.
The Meerkats discussed what single-use plastic is, what it does to the animals and sea creatures they love, and what they can do about it at home and at school. They then divided themselves into 2 Groups and took to the streets, accompanied by parents, a Scout, and Scouters. While cleaning up the litter they asked: “Why do people throw their litter on the ground instead of in the bin?”. A very good question indeed …
You are never too little or too young to make a difference in the world! If you throw your rubbish in the bin and pick up the litter you find, you will protect nature and the turtles and sea creatures in the ocean.
