Little hands make light work of BIG clean-up!
Cleaning up the local park:
We felt that we could best serve our community by cleaning up the only children's play area and dog walking park in our community. In turn, making it a safer place. Also, prevent the litter from blowing into the lagoon that is situated directly across the street, thereby reducing the likelihood of the litter being carried out to sea and negatively impacting our ocean life.
#LitterLess #NationalChallenge #Scoutssouthafrica
We implemented the project in our local community park where we host our scouting-related activities.
Each Meerkat and the volunteer scout patrol were given black bags and rubber gloves and were escorted by the Den Scouters. We collected as much litter as we could find in the park and along the road near the lagoon.
The number of people impacted is countless, as this park serves the Sedgefield community as a whole.
The impact was that we have made this much-used area a safer place for our Children to play, our dog walkers to take their fur babies for a walk out in nature and we have prevented the litter from blowing into the lagoon across the street and thus preventing it from being carried out to sea and harming our ocean life.
In the future, we hope to be able to arrange a larger clean-up in our community. Involving the Scouts, Cubs, and other Community organizations, further educate the community on the importance of recycling and placing our litter in a dustbin and the harm it does to our environment.
We would also like to ask out local authorities to place more bins along the lagoon road and our local park.
