LITTER LESS CLEANUP STRIKING COMMUNITY

the goal is to have a cleaner environment and area. To promote more outdoor activity to have our troop help our community grow. In doing clean ups like this litter less projects we can show people a different attitude towards littering.
Our litter less project took place on a very litter populated corner in the grassy park area. Cubs and scouts with scouters which had identified the area rounded up in groups equiped with black refuse bags and latex gloves set out to make a change. More than 20 bags filled with different types from plastic to glass and cardboard.
This area is a walk through for lots of runners and joggers on a daily basis. Having so much foot traffic with these different types of litter makes it unsafe and dangerous as they can get hurt. Having the community see this cleanup happen we hope to have changed their thoughts and mindset on the next time they see someone littering and motivate everyone to use the bins along the routes.
That making a change starts with your own community, showing the scouts and cubs involved that they can bring about change if they stand together. We would make a few signs to put up to stop littering and encourage to use the refuse bins.
