Kenure Woods Clean Up

Kenure Woods Clean Up

38th Rush Cub Scouts are very lucky to have their Den in the old Gate House of Kenure Estate. The Den is surrounded by Kenure Park and the remains of the woods. It is a public park and as such has a lot of traffic and unfortunately can become quite littered. Our Cub Scouts decided for their Community Project that they would make a big difference to the Park by cleaning all the litter and tidying up around the Den. Apart from the usual litter we managed to find a bicycle tyre and a traffic cone! Both Sections of Monday and Tuesday Cubs participated in the clean up and were amazed at the amount of rubbish collected. 16 full sacks of rubbish were removed from the Park. Our Cubs really had their eyes opened. They all agreed that whereas they wouldn't normally notice the litter while walking through the park, when you have actually spent a few hours cleaning it up it really heightens your awareness of the problem. Our Cubs are very proud of the job they have done and really enjoyed the experience, they feel they have in some way taken ownership of the park and will continue to look after it.
