Food bank collection
Cubs at Blenheim Scout Group were asked to choose a project to support the local community for part of their Our World challenge badge. They came up with a list of projects and voted to support Luton foodbank. They had a visit to learn about how the foodbank works and what goes into a food parcel and then designed collecting boxes and posters to hold a food collection. Armed with their posters, collecting boxes and shopping lists, they went to the local Co-op supermarket for the day on Saturday 13th May 2017 where they handed out the shopping lists to customers and encouraged them to buy one or to extra items to donate to Luton Foodbank. During the day they collected nearly 400 food items from shoppers. After the collection the cubs took the food to the foodbank warehouse where they learnt how donations are sorted, stored and food parcels are put together ready to be given to people in need.
