De raske børn

My Scout of the World Award project is called “The forgotten children” which was a weekend camp for siblings of children with mental illnesses.

Mental illness hurts one in five people. Even though many people suffer from mental illness it is still a taboo in Denmark. That is why it is not commonly talked about not even in the family of people that suffer. Mental illness does not only hurt the person suffering from it, it also hurts those around the person. When you have a person with a mental illness in the family siblings tends to get overlooked. That is not noticed by friends, school and sometimes even family. That’s is why it is so important to have someone to talk to. When that is not the case we see that the forgotten siblings are often on the way to mental illness themselves, and then the “healthy” child becomes the sick one.
