1st Bergvliet Waingunga Pack spreads Hope
APS Logan Dart and the volunteer leaders saw the call for Jars of Hope from SCOUTS SA and decided to join so their Cubs could give back to people in need in their community. "We often do service projects as a Pack to create a habit of giving back and to build a spirit of service within the Cubs themselves."
During the Pack meeting on Mandela Day the Cubs, adult leaders and parents packed the dry food ingredients into the Jars. "Where the call was for 17 Jars of Hope (67 warm meals), our Pack exceeded this goal by packing over 30 Jars of Hope, equal to 120 warm meals for people in need! They were donated a local organisation called ‘Cope with Hope'".
Service projects are part and parcel of the Cub Advancement programme. They are very important as children learn to give back and we can now see that Cubs are deciding on their own to help others. The Jars of Hope project encourages them to want to give back as they are physically putting in their own time and effort and are also getting their friends at school to help.
