Plastics are trembling in Rwanda as Guides and Scouts join the #TideTurner challenge

There is no doubt plastic related products and materials are a threat to our planet and the next generation if nothing is done to reverse the trend that is contributing to global warming and climate change in general. Members of the Rwanda Scouts Association have started the battle during the #ClimateAction strike in September 2019, where they collected around 80 big bags of plastic bottles in Nyabugogo wetlands (see picture). During the official launch of the #GuidingandScoutingWeek2020 in Rwanda, the #PlasticTideTurner challenge was officially launced by Bryan Michuki, representing UN Environment Programme. With this new partnership between United Nations Environment Programme, Rwanda Scouts Association and the Rwanda Girl Guides Association, both scouts and guides are now embarking on a serious fight against plastics in Rwanda. This will done through change of behaviours for scouts and guides themselves but also raising awareness in their respective communities around the consequences if we continue using single use plastics in our daily lives. With this partnership and the energy guides and scouts will be putting in the struggle, plastic bottles and their cousin materials must be trembling in Rwanda.
