Planting Peace: Adopt an Avocado Plant
What inspired you to take up the project?
Inspired by International Day of Peace, our scouts wanted to show that peace begins with caring for people and nature. By adopting and planting avocado saplings, we hoped to grow something lasting. This project teaches young people responsibility, patience, and environmental care, while nurturing a spirit of harmony in our community.
What are the learnings you got from implementing this project and how would you make it better?
Through this project, we learned that patience and consistent care are needed to grow anything lasting, just as peace needs steady effort. Planning with school management and leaders showed us the value of teamwork. Adopting each sapling taught our scouts responsibility, and planting together reminded us that caring for nature is a path to peace and harmony.
Where was your project implemented and how did you execute it?
Almost two years ago, we began raising avocado saplings. Before International Peace Day, we discussed the plan with school management, adult leaders and leadership scouts, and prepared the site a day earlier. On 21 September, after assembly, the principal led a short prayer for the saplings’ wellbeing. Scouts then planted all 13 saplings, each adopted by a scout who pledged to nurture it.
