LETS BEAT GLOBAL WARMING!! HAPPY WORLD EARTH DAY!

On 20th April 2023, World Earth Day, I volunteered for the Darren Hart Foundation which was in partnership with KEPRO to carry out clean-up activities, Tree planting, Youth empowerment, and Advocacy campaigns at Lang'ata. We started by collecting trash on our way to an illegal dumpsite at Lang'ata near Uhuru Gardens estate. As we cleaned up the dumpsite we educated the community on the importance of not trashing the environment and we urged them to keep their surroundings clean to reduce the health hazards brought about by dumping wastes at the wrong place. After cleaning the illegal dumpsite we planted trees in the area to prevent the community from trashing again. The plastics that were collected were taken to be recycled and used for better products. After the clean up we went and planted 500 trees at Uhuru Gardens primary and secondary school. This was to help counter global warming and reduce climate change as we have been faced with that problem as a nation and as the world too, and as scouts it is our mission to take care of nature as indicated in Scouts law number 7. In youth empowerment and advocacy campaigns, we encouraged other youths and members of the community to be climate and environmental activists and fight for a healthier planet. #plasticvsplastic #kenyascoutsturningtheplastictide #worldearthday
