Scouts Go Solar Challenge

• The world generates more than 66% of its electricity from fossil fuels, which releases huge amounts of carbon dioxide, causing the greenhouse effect.
• One year’s worth of solar energy reaching the surface of the Earth is twice the amount of all non-renewable energy resources combined.
• The uses for solar energy are endless! It can be used to power homes and businesses, provide electricity for remote areas, and even power transportation.

So let’s make renewable energy mainstream, shall we?

• Discover different types of energy.
• Understand how energy misuse and poor renewable energy practices harm the environment.
• Assess your daily energy consumption and its sources.
• Create sustainable solutions with others to promote solar energy use.
• Explore various uses of solar energy through a series of activities and experiments.

1. Agree with your Leader on the activities and community project you want to do.
2. Complete a minimum of 5 activities from our activity bank (next page).
3. Answer the reflection questions after each activity.
4. Complete your community service project related to renewable energy.
5. Reflect with your Adult Leader on your experience during the challenge and how your project is making a positive change.
6. Share your project story on sdgs.scout.org.
7. Wait up to a week for the feedback email.
