WATER FOR CHILD SOUTH SUDAN PROJECT (scout.org) Water for Child South Sudan Project was initiated by the Rhino Rover Crew, after having seen the alarming situation of lack of clean drinking water and poor hygiene environment in most of primary schools in South Sudan. Some schools use two drums of water (200 litres) to serve a population of 2000 children, one small hand washing facility and no rubbish pit, rubbish are just dumped on an open space within the school fence. The drinking water in the two drums is not protected, the drums are dumped on the ground and every child deep their small containers with their dirty hands into the water and the water get very dirty in less than a minute. Not only that but also children are sensitized about hygiene best practicesof hand washing and keeping of their school environment clean to avoid break out of water bone diseases.The insufficient facilities for clean and safe drinking water, hand washing and rubbish dumping pit resulted to poor sanitation and hygiene in the school. This situation exposes the school children in to high risks of water and hygiene related diseases. As a result many children use to fall sick of water bone diseases such as watery diarrhoea, stomach pain and typhoid. Therefore, to reduce and prevent risks of outbreak of related water and hygiene diseases in schools, Rhino Rover Crew came up with thebelow proposed solutions to address this problem throughRoutine hygiene awareness to the school children on the best practices of personal and household’s hygiene, Provision ofat least one plastic water tank of 2000ltrs and two hand washing tip-taps to five schools. Goal: The main Reduced of this project is to preventable water and hygiene related diseases among the school children. Objectives: The objectives of this project are:- • To increase access to clean and safe drinking water to 6000 school children by January 2019 • To increase access to hand washing facilities to 6000 school children by the end January 2019 • To promote best hygiene and sanitation practices by 60% in the school compound by 2019 • To install culture of peace among the children through handover ceremony of the project Expected Outcome: The expected outcome of this project is that by the end of January 2019, the water bone diseases infections among school children is reduced by 40%, increased good performances in schools and improved health The target of this project was five (5) schools as a pilot project, but the situation that prompted Rhino Rover Crew to come up with this project still exist in many schools in Juba as well as in the States.
