SUPPORTING FAMILIES AND REBUILDING PREPAREDNESS

Inspired by the devastation caused by Cyclones Belal and Candice in January 2024, this project aimed to support vulnerable families in Mauritius. Witnessing their struggles, I felt compelled to act—providing school supplies, food, and disaster preparedness education to help restore hope, dignity, and resilience within affected communities.
We supported 15 vulnerable families by providing school kits, uniforms, warm clothing, and food packages. A disaster preparedness lecture was held with experts from the Red Cross and national agencies. With support from the World Scout Foundation, all activities were completed between April and October 2024 to build resilience.
Throughout this project, I learned the importance of community collaboration, swift action, and adaptability during crisis situations. I saw how small acts of support can bring immense hope. Engaging families directly also highlighted the value of listening to their needs, and how education and preparedness can empower communities to face future disasters more confidently.
