Ruai Zone Tree Planting: Towards A Greener Future

The Ruai Zone Scouts Tree Planting Project was driven by the need to promote environmental conservation, nutrition, and wellness while reinforcing the Scout Law’s principles of service and responsibility. Through the planting of fruit trees, the project was aimed at enhancing food security by providing a sustainable source of nutrition for school-going children in learning institutions while medicinal trees were fostered awareness of indigenous knowledge as a catalyst to conservation.
Between 24th March and 2nd April 2025 scouts planted fruit and medicinal trees across five Ruai schools. The trees were donated by Zonal Leader Julius Waweru. The trees promoted nutrition and wellness. Seedling bags were recovered for reuse to support the plastic tide turners initiative. The project was supporting Kenya’s 15 billion tree goal and Scouting values.
The project reinforced proper seedling handling, tree care, and reduction of plastic bag waste as part of environmental responsibility. Scouts learned the value of fruit trees for nutrition and medicinal trees for wellness while promoting plastic waste reduction. Collaboration with schools and leaders showed the power of teamwork, emphasizing long-term care and commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.
