Providing emergency traffic services
As a Rover Scout, I was inspired to start the Emergency Traffic Services project after observing how traffic mismanagement during emergencies or large public events often caused delays, panic, and even risks to lives. I wanted to contribute by applying the values of discipline, teamwork, and service that Scouting teaches.
During times of national instability, I coordinated with local Scout units and traffic authorities to organize teams of trained Scout volunteers. We were strategically deployed at busy intersections and public spots to assist with traffic flow, guide pedestrians, and support emergency vehicles. We maintained constant communication via mobile and Scout radios, ensured safety gear was used, and worked in shifts to provide continuous support.
As a Scout volunteer, I learned:
Leadership and teamwork. Crisis management and staying calm during emergencies. Effective communication with authorities and the public.
Real-life application of Scouting values like duty, service, and preparedness.
