Zero Waste - 2019 ( National Level Project of Sri Lanka Scout Association)
Zero Waste 2019 is an environmental conservation project which mainly focused on Proper waste segragation/ Management and 5 R concepts. Making general public aware of above mentioned concepts and making positive changes were highly focused on the project.
Project was started on 21st of September, International Peace day by relesing press releasing to the media and sending circulars to the districts of Sri Lanka Scout Association. Project was conducted in 4 phases under the direct support of APR Support Center and Messgers of Peace Initiative.
Phase 1
Introductory Workshop for District MoP Coordinators and District Commissioners on “Zero Waste” Project was conducted on 12th October 2019. At the workshop District MoP Coordinators and District Commissioners were trained on following topics
- Understanding the concept “Zero Waste”
- Planning a Training for scouts
- Planning District Level Project
Phase 2
As the second Stage District MoP coordinators and District Commissioners acted as TOT and have selected a team minimum of 100 ( 90 Scouts and 10 Adult Leaders) from each district and arranged a training which expected following outcomes
- Giving them a basic understanding of Project Concepts
- Training them to distribute leaflets and to deliver the messages to general public
Phase 3
37 District Level Projects were executed in selected Municipal area in all 37 Districts on 1st, 2nd and 3rd November 2019 with the participation of team comprises of minimum of 100 in each district wascompleted with the participation of 5500Adults in Scouting and Scouts.
Scouts and Adults in scouting visited house holds, educated general public on Proper waste segragation/ Management and 5 R concepts, and distributed leaflets.
500,000 households were visited, 2,000,000 General Public were addressed and contributed for 132,000 service hours.
Stage 4
Evaluation of the Project was done according to following 4 methods.
- Onsite evaluation by Supervising officer appointed by SLSA
- By a Project report with photographs
- By www.scout.org web uploads of the project
- Presentations at the Final Review on 9th November 2019 - Colombo
To check the sustainability of the project a KAP( Knowledge, Attitude and Practices) Surveys were done in each district for selected samples.
