Walking for Peace - 2022 Rotary Aussie Peace Walk

Three Amaroo Cub Scouts were inspired at a 'Scouts Own' to represent their culture, language and heritage and promote 'World Peace' by participating at the 2022 Rotary Aussie Peace Walk around Canberra, Australia. Once Cub Scout in particular, with family in Moldova, Ukraine and Russia, wanted to walk for peace in her mother's homeland. As a Cub Scout she also raised money through recycling cans and bottles and contributed to the Scouts Emergency Response in Ukraine | World Scouting.

Three Amaroo Cub Scouts walked 7km on both the 26 and 27 March 2022 as part of the 2022 Rotary Aussie Peace Walk. Cub Scouts wore clothing to represent their culture, language and heritage. Cub Scouts rang the Canberra Rotary Peace Bell after reciting their joint commitment to peace in their families, communities, nations and world. Cub Scouts also found 'May Peace Prevail on Earth' in each of their languages (Ukrainian, Greek and Hindi) at the Canberra Rotary Peace Bell.

While only three Amaroo Cub Scouts participated in the walk, their involvement inspired the other walkers and organisers of the 2022 Rotary Aussie Peace Walk. Other walkers would stop the Cub Scouts to ask about their country and goal for completing the walk - which was shared on the public event social media. Cub Scouts have shared their walk with the broader Cub Scout Unit and Group and given inspiration to their friends and families.

The three Amaroo Cub Scouts reflected that they felt honoured to publicly represent their culture, language and heritage in their home city of Canberra. The three Cub Scouts also reflected that Scouts is a movement of peace, and honoured fellow Scouts helping others survive the war in Ukraine and ongoing conflicts in Afghanistan and other parts of the world. The Cub Scouts hoped that more Cubs would participate in the 2023 Rotary Aussie Peace Walk.
