See under the Sea
As a sea scout and diver in a historic coastal city with one of the world’s oldest harbors, I’ve seen how beachgoers’ waste threatens marine life and makes exploring our underwater ruins nearly impossible. To protect the sea and its heritage, my fellow rovers and I have decided to take action.
With local partners, we led a two-week beach and underwater cleanup in Alexandria’s Eastern Harbor, removing about one ton of waste daily. The project raised awareness on marine pollution, gained national media coverage, and concluded with a ceremony attended by officials.
Using the right tools and correct channels, we can manage to raise proper awareness the a major problem facing the community.
The government is willing to help if we as scouts approach them in the right ways.
