Say no plastic, save Hatirjheel
Hatirjheel is a beautiful place in Dhaka, but people throw a lot of plastic and garbage there. We noticed that this waste easily gets mixed in the air and spoils the lake. As scouts working for SDG, we wanted to stop this. We decided to clean the banks so that plastic and garbage do not reach the water. Also, we wanted to show people that if we can clean it, they can also keep it clean.
On Friday, May 22, 2026, I went to Hatirjheel as a responsible Seal Rover of the Bangladesh Institute of Glass and Ceramic Rover Scout Group. Many other rovers came there. We divided into groups, took gloves and garbage bags and cleaned the walkways and banks. We collected 15 big black bags full of plastic and garbage and put them in the dustbin of the City Corporation. Our work also caught the attention of local visitors, who realized that they should no longer litter.
Teamwork was successful: We were able to quickly clean up a large area and collect 15 bags of trash by working together. Prevention is key: It is much easier to collect plastic and trash from the banks before it reaches the water. Action inspires: The public cleanup campaign caught people’s attention, proving that visible action is the best way to spread awareness.
