Pramuka Universitas Indonesia Visit Bawean Island

This project was inspired because the pandemic COVID-19 affected to ecotourism sector of Bawean Island. In addition, we found other environmental problems. Therefore, Pramuka Universitas Indonesia (UI Scout) applied a proposal community service program to our university (University of Indonesia). Finally, our proposal was accepted and got funding from university. The topic of the project is "Ecotourism Development Based on Community Empowerment in Bawean Island, Sangkapura, Gresik".

This project has been held in Bawean Island, Gresik, Indonesia. These programs used 2 methods, offline and online activities. Offline activities there are provided education of mangrove's benefits to Scouts member of "Sako Scouts Keren 18 Bawean", observation of endemic animal "Axis kuhlii", provided socialization of SDGs and e-commerce to the community, and mangrove trees planting. Online activities there are planning, community training about ecotourism graphic design, and monitoring program.

About 50 people benefited from this project. We provided education about the benefits of mangroves to Bawean Island Scouts, so they are enthusiastic to contribute to protecting the mangrove. We also invited them to planted mangrove trees to protect the environment and nature. We also provided socialization to the local community about the SDGs and e-commerce, which we hoped can develop their economy through e-commerce. This project also produces outputs: popular articles, videos, and infographic.

I can learn many things from this project, especially about nature and the environment. Mangroves not only provide benefits for nature but also for humans. Endemic animals such as the Bawean deer or "Axis kuhlii" make me even more excited to share their stories with others, so more people will realize how important to protect this endemic animal and our planet.
