One Mangrove for the One Future

Mangroves have an important role in coastal ecosystems. One of them is to prevent abrasion. This project is motivated by young people's concern for climate change and the preservation of coastal ecosystems. This project aims to build community awareness of the important role of mangroves in life through community participation in the program.

This project was implemented in Minahasa Utara, North Sulawesi, Indonesia on October 8, 2022. This project was executed by Universitas Indonesia which collaborated with local government, scouts, and local youth. This project has succeeded in planting 300 mangroves. Mangrove planting was implemented by students and lecturers of Universitas Indonesia, the local government, scouts, and young people in Minahasa Utara.

This project has reached around 100 beneficiaries consisting of local communities. In addition, mangrove planting has contributed to reducing the impact of climate change, protecting the coast from disasters, protecting coastal ecosystems, and helping the community's economy. The role of planted mangroves will have a sustainable impact in the future, especially in coastal ecosystems as long as mangroves can grow.

This project is expected to protect the coastal environment in the target area from abrasion, protect coastal ecosystems, improve the community's economy, and increase public awareness of the important role of mangroves in life. Collaboration with various parties in implementing this project is very important, because the surrounding environment is our responsibility. Protecting the environment and the planet cannot be done alone, therefore youth, especially Scouts, have a very important role.
