Live Green | Messenger of Peace

My name is Dao Nguyen Kim, a Venture Scout from Nghinh Phong Venture Scout, Vung Tau District, currently I am the Founder of the project named Live Green. We are looking forward to signing up this project to World Organisation Scout Movement, following the 17 Sustainable Development Growth of the United Nations.

Vung Tau, Viet Nam is one of the chosen cities, to become a Clean Tourism City Asean 2020, However, wastes are still one of the major problems against this beautiful beach city. Every day, there are over 300 tons of domestic waste, households at Vung Tau are transported to a Waste Treatment Factory which stored many types of wastes, including recycling waste and toxic waste. Recycle waste includes paper, newspaper, bottles, cans, toxic waste include batteries. As a result, we started to build up this project, aiming to raise awareness to everyone about protecting the environment and to understand more about waste classification.

MoP Messenger of Peace and SDG Sustainable Development Growth has always been our goal for Live Green: Trade Recycled Waste with Trees, under control by our Scout Leaders. We currently have 12 members, 7 of them are Venture Scouts and 5 of them are supporters, volunteers from local high schools in town. They wanted to give us a hand in working on this project.

So Far, Trade Recycled Waste with Trees is one of our most successful project in Live Green, begin from the 28th April 2020 till now. We earned great achievements and results from this project. Every Sunday from 7:30am to 10:00am at Mộc Lâm Coffee, the address is at 428 Lê Hồng Phong Street, Vung Tau city, we will always attend at our workshop and ready to trade recycle waste with trees.

Every project will have difficulties, and so is Live Green, due to our lack of experience in leadership skills. But, after the lessons I have experienced, I have learned many things, with the support of the Scout Leaders and Live Green members. We have applied the TeamWork method in our project and express a very professional mindset.

Our Project is looking forward to the 11,13,15 Goals of Sustainable Development Growth of the United Nation: Sustainable Cities and Communities, Climate Action, Life on Land. This activity will help to raise awareness to everyone about protecting the environment, plant more trees and understand more about waste classification. Create a cycle of Protecting the environment to every household, especially, aiming for small children.

After 6 months, 28/4/2020 2/10/2020, we have traded over:

• 500 Kg papers
• 3200 Cans
• 1700 Batteries
• 60 Kg newspaper
• 10 Kg bottles

Every project will have difficulties, and so is Live Green, due to our lack of experience in leadership skills. But, after the lessons I have experienced, I have learned many things, with the support of the Scout Leaders and Live Green members. We have applied the TeamWork method in our project and express a very professional mindset.

I will still continue working for Live Green and make this project become a traditional project of our Venture Scout, pass down to other Venture Scout generations. We have a focus on advertised and raise awareness of protecting the environment on Live Green Facebook Page and Instagram @livegreen.environment.
