Improving adherence to medication provided
It had always been a constant problem I've seen while working at hospital that patients doesn't take their medication as prescribed. We could never know the exact reason why this happened on daily basis. This urged me to take an action that can help reduce this problem and find the cause of the problem.
The project was implemented at Wangdicholing Hospital in Bumthang district. The hospital reaches out to a population of almost more than 20,000. In order to complete this project, I attached myself to the hospital as an intern and passed out survey questions to the patients and the health workers. The survey was carried out mainly to make sure I got to the core reason why patients didn't take their medicine until the dosing regimen was complete,
Through this project, the health workers could understand why patients had problems adhering to medication. They could try and change their prejudices about why patients didn't complete their medication. Health workers understood the need for better counseling while dispensing thus improving adherence. Patients could also change their thoughts on the need to complete the medication.
The project taught me how to be try and understand others and see the world through others eyes. What we always thought was not always right. If I could make this project, it would be to extend my target population and get better reviews.
