Gender Equality Campaign to Adult Leaders
Participated by 64 Course for Managers of Learning trainees and 16 Leader Trainers, a campaign for gender equality was conducted on the 19th of May 2019 at Bontoc, Mountain Province, Philippines.
Guided by the objective of inviting people to stand together as equal partners to craft a shared vision of a gender equal world and implement specific, locally relevant solutions for the food of all humanity.
Using the Action Kit provided by the World Organization of the Scout Movement, several activities were experienced by the participants which helped them be enlightened about gender equality related situations occurring in our communities.
Basically, the activity followed the three key parts formulated by #HeForShe: 1. Know why to act; 2. Make the commitment; and, 3. Plan your next move.
To help the participants be aware of why they should act, three (3) activities were held.
First, they were divided into two (2) groups and were asked to build a human pyramid but with some conditions. The first group was controlled and the other group was given the freedom to do whatever they want. The free group were also given the task to punish the controlled group if they were found violating the set of rules.
The objective of this activity is to make them feel and realize how hard it is to be controlled by the community.
The second activity was fixing a jigsaw puzzle. The photo in the jigsaw puzzle contains different issues concerning gender equality. At the end, participants were asked to share their answer to the questions assigned to them.
Lastly, participants were asked to match the concept to the UN HeForShe commitment or definition. The aim of the activity was to make the participants understand what HeForShe is committed to and to encourage them to commit to the initiative.
For the “Make the Commitment” part of the session, participants were asked to write their information to the commitment form.
Ending up the session, the participants were asked to write their personal action plan regarding their commitment to the HeForShe initiative.
