When we were on holiday about an year ago we came across a small pre-school building without a roof. The children of the school had to travel a long distance to a Govt building as their school was housed there. My father agreed to repair the roof. Once the roof was made we were invited for the reopening of the school. As it was our school vacation my brother and i wanted to redecorate the school. So we invited our friends to join us in this project. The paint was a donation and my parents gave money for the charts that we needed to decorate the class room. Many friends and family donated story books and stationary for the 35 children in the pre-school. Our main aim was to make the children aware of the importance of separating garbage and waste material. As these children were of ages below 5 years, we could not teach them much about recycle and reuse, but at least the 1st step to recycling is to separate the waste. So we took coloured pails and labelled with the matter that has to be separated, and got the children to go around the school premises and pick garbage. We made 2 charts of recycling and re-use for the class room. After the program we distributed gifts and the children went home. Thereafter we got to work..... to paint the class room in white and the outside in sunny orange. After finishing the painting, we started to decorate the class room by hanging the charts. The transformation was unbelievable. The head mistress of the pre-school ,Mrs. Malkanthi , was very pleased and thankful for our service and now that the children could continue their studies in the village.
