Book Deliver Peace Project
One of our most fun project is #BookDeliverPeace. This project started at World Book Day 6th of March 2014, when 3 Teams of PRABUHI | Reading Volunteer Scouts from Tasikmalaya, Cianjur and Sukabumi; collected used books from their neighbourhood, wrote a very personal letter containing peace messages and encouragement lines of how fun and pleasing reading a book is, to other teams' sisters or brothers. So, the first session of a project was more like book swaps.
In July, this project continued to be run by 2 more teams: Bandung and Banten, right after a youth camp in Cibubur Campsite. This time we had the book package from Asian Foundation #BookTimeID. These precious packages were spread over 3 regions to random children in each team's neighbourhood. The letters were more happily elaborated. the writers (our volunteers) became more enthusiast in telling stories of themselves enjoying books, and sharing plans of doing some simple good deeds for the society as ways of building peace.
Soon we re-designed the project to be part of our activities of #BookforAll Indonesia or #BukuUntukSemua
Last December, when 145 volunteers of PRABUHI worked for Indonesian National Camp of Forestry Special Scouts (PERTIWANA 2014) in Cibubur Campsite, this projects became huge!
We not only had 240 packages of #BookTimeID Asian Foundation, Tempo Institutes had also sent us 250, included Books donated by Mr. Basuki Tjahaya Purnama (Jakarta's Governor) to be used in our #BookDeliverPeace project for that whole week of National Camp.
So we introduced the project to Camp's participants, and asked them to join the project. We let them think about somebody in their neighbourhood who will be happy to read books, then they choose the book, and write peace letter for that person wishing them happy reading and tell how interesting that book is, and encouraged them to share the books when they finish reading it. Afterwards, they enclose the letter in the book, then we give them envelope to wrap it up, and pack the book as a #BookDeliverPeace package.
In the first 3 days we sent more than 500 packages of Books containing Peace Letter from the participants to people targeted by other participants. In the third day, Ms. Mita from Tempo Institute sent us another 200 books donated by Mr. Joko Widodo, our president!
The participants who joined this project were not only Indonesian Rovers, but also Scouts from Brunai Darussalam and Malaysia. Some of the packages were sent by air mail, about 30 packages will be re-sent to other postal address of needing community in Eastern Indonesia, because the address given were not complete.
