Scouts from St. Peter Clean Up the Beach On Saturday January 31st, 2015, 26 scouts, old scouts, parents and leaders from the St Peter Parish Church Sea Scout Troop gathered at the beach adjacent to the Speightstown Nazarene Church to participate in a beach Clean Up. This was first activity of the Troop’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations and a project conducted under the new Messengers of Peace framework of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM). Venture Scout Leader at the Troop Mr. Dwayne Worrell indicated that the troop was pleased with the turnout and noted that the group collected over 600 pounds of garbage. “We are very happy with the activity this morning and are also very happy to start the year off on such a good note. We look forward to conduct more projects like these including a beautification project at the Children’s Ward of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This is only the start of a series of undertakings which fall in the troop’s golden anniversary year. We invite all of Barbados’ support and participation.” Noting that the group has also started the collection of garbage cans which will be placed throughout Speightstown, Worrell mentioned “we have to thank Harris Paints and Pinehill Dairy for supporting this cause via the donation of garbage cans as a sustainable city clean-up project.” He continued “We also received support from the Sanitation Service Authority.” Cub scouts and parents from the Gordon Greenidge and St. Lucy Cub Packs also participated.
