World Children’s Day was celebrated in Ghana. As part of the activities, children from 8 countries from West and Central Africa met in Accra to take over the “Africa Dialogues Conference”. On stage were 10 young people between the ages of 10-18 who told the world about the Africa they want. Natasha Adu, 12 years old and a Ghanaian Scout spoke about the Africa she wants. Her talk was on the SDG’s placing emphasis on goals 3, 4, 6 and 13. On sanitation she said Africa should treat proper disposal of rubbish as a priority. Natasha spoke about how her Scout group came up with a creative, cost effective and innovative way of disposing rubbish. Dustbins were made from the yellow cooking oil gallons and distributed to all the classrooms in her school. The rubbish, mainly papers, which was generated from the classrooms was turned into papier marchè, molded and painted into learning and teaching aids for the pre-school department of her school. Natasha sees herself as assertive, confident and a leader, qualities she said Scouting instills in young people enabling them to be come active global citizens. The program was a collaboration between UNICEF and People Initiative Foundation, Ghana.
