Activity Description

Activity Flow:

  1. Build two groups who compete with each other.  The groups sit separately, so they can discuss the answers among each other without being heard by the other group. (If there is only a small group participating in this activity, it might be better not to divide it and to let them play all together and discuss among each other.)
  2. Each group selects a speaker who will transmit the answer to the quizmaster.
  3. The quizmaster arranges the questions according to the colours (green = easy, yellow = medium, red = tough) and selects the level of difficulty that fits the group.
  4. If you like, you can present it like a TV quiz show.
  5. Explain the rules: The quizmaster reads out the question and the possible answers. Each group can discuss among itself. The speaker of both groups pass the answer on to the quizmaster
  6. Let the quiz begin! The quizmaster asks one question after the other and counts the points. The group with more correct answers wins. If both groups have the same amount of points, the quizmaster might select a tie-breaker question from the next level of difficulty.

Theory

  • A lot of different topics are mentioned in the quiz questions. If you are interested to know more about something, feel free to ask your group leader, your parents, your teachers etc. or to do some research on your own.
Relevant information for Facilitator

Try to make the quiz as engaging as possible, so it doesn’t feel like an exam at school. You can create excitement by motivating the groups, waiting a little before you tell the correct answer, congratulating them for the correct answer, adding some explanations to the answers or explaining why the other answers are not correct, etc.

This activity is also a very good option if you need to fill a gap between other activities, and there is some time left. Just take out the quiz cards and start playing.
