WAY OF THE CROSS.......

WAY OF THE CROSS.......

The 136th Centenary Sea Scout ship is an energetic group of young rovers whose activities have been mainly spread around Negombo. In keeping with the legacy of the city, commonly known as ‘little Rome’ for its remarkable Catholic civilizations, the rovers decided to undertake a religious rite this lent season. It was a ‘way of the cross’ organized for the 1st time ever in Negombo district as well as in the island. ‘Way of the Cross’ is a ritual celebrated by all Christians throughout the world, which commemorates Jesus Christ’s cruel death on the cross and his sacrament of life for the sake of mankind. Scouts started the event at 9.30 am at the St. Lourdes Church, Kimbulapitiya. Each station was meditated with fruitful thoughts for life shared by scouts and scout leaders. Throughout the journey a slow flow of ancient lent hymns and ‘lathoni’ were echoed in the church premises as the participants sang them beautifully. The event was followed by a holy mass conducted by Rev. Fr. Lakshantha, the assistant parish priest of the church. All the scouts participated in the holy mass with great passion and faithfulness. At the end of the ‘way of the cross’ event scouts marched back with a firm determination, to take the crucified Jesus Christ’s message to their families and to society and to live their lives according to the will of God Almighty.
