Transforming Nutrition in Southern Madagascar

Scouts in Madagascar have initiated a nutrition project in the drought-prone southern regions of Androy and Anosy, focusing on school-aged children. Aligned with the global goal of Zero Hunger, the initiative addresses local malnutrition, which affects about 47% of children under five in these areas. By emphasizing education and community involvement, Scouts aim to combat hunger and promote personal development amidst significant challenges.
In Madagascar's Androy and Anosy regions, Scouts launched nutrition education campaigns, utilizing digital platforms for broader engagement. The "Tsikitragno" culinary competition encouraged youths to use local ingredients like cassava and legumes, emphasizing water conservation in cooking. This is part of a program that awards the YUNGA Nutrition badge, fostering skill development and sustainable practices among participants.
Reflecting on their project, Scouts in Madagascar recognized the value of persistent community engagement and regular monitoring for sustainable impact. The blend of traditional Scouting methods with digital tools proved effective for large-scale education. Future plans include replicating and refining this model in other regions, drawing on feedback and outcomes from existing initiatives to enhance effectiveness.
