Project Kaukauwa (Resilience)

As young people and Scouts, we wanted to take action in our community and help people become better prepared for disasters. Through the Global Youth Mobilization, we saw an opportunity to engage directly with a village, share knowledge on disaster preparedness, and promote cooperation and peace. Our goal was to help build a more informed, resilient and united community.
In April, our team travelled to the village and engaged with community members through discussions and activities focused on disaster preparedness, resilience and peace. We shared practical information, encouraged participation and listened to the community's experiences. After the visit, we reflected on what we learned and the impact of the engagement.
We learned that effective community work starts with listening and understanding the needs of the people. We also learned the importance of teamwork, communication and being adaptable. Most importantly, the project showed us that young people can make a meaningful contribution to building safer, more resilient and peaceful communities.
