Malawian Scouts Climate Action

Malawian Scouts Climate Action

I was inspired to start this project because Malawi faces serious environmental challenges such as deforestation and land degradation. As a Scout, I wanted to take action by engaging young people and community members in protecting the environment and building a sustainable future.

The project was implemented in partnership with CHAMBO Scouts and Lilongwe City Council. Together, Scouts worked side-by-side with local community members to plant trees and establish small nurseries for growing seedlings. Community members actively participated in tree planting activities and awareness discussions on environmental conservation.

  • Participants (Scouts):
  • Beneficiaries (Community members):
  • Trees planted: 1000 tree seedlings
  • Total hours:
    • Planning and coordination: Nursery preparation and seedling management:
    • Tree planting and community outreach: 8 hour

Through this project, Scouts gained practical skills in tree planting, nursery management, and environmental awareness, while community members benefited from improved green spaces and increased knowledge on conservation. The project demonstrated that youth leadership and community collaboration are essential for effective climate action.
