Helping communities after Cyclone Fyti

After Cyclone Fyti struck, the most devastating impact wasn't just the wind, it was the earth itself giving way. We were inspired by the resilience of the Malagasy people and the belief that no family should have to rebuild their life on unstable ground alone. By embracing SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), we realized that while the disaster was too big for one person to handle, it was manageable if we worked together.
We collaborated with local community leaders and the young women from the center to identify the highest-risk zones. Our team worked to remove significant amounts of earth that had collapsed onto the properties.
I realized that helping isn't just about giving food; it’s about restoring the path. Clearing the mud meant that the elderly could walk without fear and children could reach school safely.
