Footprints of Peace: Trail Cleanup to Drungkhag

True peace extends beyond human relationships to living in harmony with nature. Witnessing litter degrading the natural trail to our local Drungkhag inspired our Scout focal person to motivate the troop to take action on International Peace Day. Through this initiative, we aimed to demonstrate that environmental stewardship is a fundamental act of peacebuilding and that protecting our surroundings contributes to a cleaner, healthier, and more peaceful community.

The project was carried out by organizing 209 Scouts under the guidance of six Leadership Scouts and adult Scout leaders. Participants were provided with waste bags and briefed on safety protocols before beginning the activity. As they hiked along the designated trail to the Drungkhag Administration, the Scouts systematically collected non-biodegradable waste and sorted it into recyclable and non-recyclable materials at the designated collection point. They also engaged with local residents to raise awareness about the importance of keeping the environment clean and protecting nature as a way of promoting peace.

By successfully removing non-biodegradable litter along the entire trail, the project helped restore the natural environment and promote environmental awareness. It also fostered a strong sense of civic responsibility, teamwork, and leadership among all 215 participating Scouts and leaders, reinforcing the importance of collective action in building a cleaner and more peaceful community.
