Developing Green Skills at Sewa Kunj Ashram
The inspiration to start the Green Skills Development project at Sewa Kunj Ashram came from a deep concern for the growing environmental challenges and the need to create awareness at the grassroots level. During visits to the Ashram, it was observed that while the surroundings had great potential for eco-friendly practices, there was a lack of structured knowledge and practical skills related to environmental conservation and sustainable living.
The project was executed through a planned, participatory, and hands-on approach to ensure maximum learning and community involvement. Initially, a need assessment was conducted at Sewa Kunj Ashram. After the assessment, a structured action plan was prepared focusing on practical green skill activities such as cleanliness drives, waste segregation, tree plantation, composting, water conservation.
Throughout the project, several important lessons were learned. The most significant lesson was that environmental protection begins with small, consistent actions. The project also taught the importance of community participation and teamwork. Active involvement of Ashram residents, volunteers, and Scouts & Guides made the activities more effective and sustainable.
