Compassionate Communication & Spiritual Practice in Scouting

World Scouting’s Messengers of Peace Initiative, launched by the World Scout Committee in 2011, aims to encouraging Scouts around the globe to contribute to building peace in their local communities. To achieve the mission, we need to have a dynamic non-violent communication tool which can transform potential conflicts into peaceful dialogues. This course aims to develop participants the essential skills that facilitate the flow of compassionate communication needed to exchange information and resolve differences peacefully. It helps participants identify their shared values & needs, encourages them to use language that increases goodwill and self-esteem of themselves and others. It is believed that inner transformation leads to outer transformation. To raise participants the consciousness in adopting compassionate communication in a deeper level, apart from skills development, participants will also be invited to cultivate their inner peace by exploring both implicit and explicit education for peace within the context of wisdom traditions and religions and integrate their learning in their practice of compassionate communication. The intent of the course is to facilitate participants to create more satisfying personal connections with themselves and with others, meet their needs in ways that honor and respect their values and the values of others, and heal from previous relationships that have been unsuccessful. The consciousness and the competency cultivated will facilitate participants, first to have peace within themselves, then between and among others. It is expected that the inner transformation will help them become congruent leaders and messengers of peaces in their families, scout groups, work settings and community.
