Canberra Cubs Committed to Peace & Community Service

Cub Scouts from Les Explorateurs and Macarthur Scout Groups are promoting peace in three ways:
  • First, we have raised funds for construction of a World Peace Bell at Nara Peace Park on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin in our nation's capital, Canberra. We have done this by conducting a read-a-thon in which Cubs gained sponsors to support them to read as many books as possible within a one month period. In addition, we have sought donations at the Nara Peace Festival and at school fetes. Money raised will be donated to the Rotary Club of Canberra Burley Griffin, who are leading the fund raising efforts for the Peace Bell project.
  • Second, we sold poppies for Remembrance Day - previously Armistice Day. Donations are given to the Returned & Services League in Australia to assist families of current and former serving military members when in need.
  • Third, we conducted a sing-a-long at a retirement village and aged care facility on 01 December 2016. Both the Cubs and the residents of the village had a terrific time singing a range of Cub Scout favourites and Australian, French and Christmas songs - all as we shared the 100th anniversary of Cubs in Australia with them.
The combined efforts of the Macarthur and Les Explorateurs Cub Packs amounts to just over 226 hours of service. '1-2-3- WOLF!!' to those involved... Les Explorateurs Scout Group Macarthur Scout Group Canberra Times article on World Peace Bell Project
