Australian Capital Territory - Contingent to Australian Jamboree 2016 - Messages of Peace project
AJ2016 was a great Messages of Peace activity -
- It was a large event attended by approx 12,000 people;
- It ran for 12 days, and for some even longer;
- It supported, encouraged, and developed many young people through the creation of a supportive and inclusive community and a range of challenging though achievable activities;
- It was heavily guided by the Scout Promise and Law, and the patrol system was in action at many levels by youth and adults;
- There were some hundreds of overseas participants, and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) hosted Scouts from NZ, USA, and Norway;
- ACT Scouts and Leaders mixed with people from across Australia and overseas on a regular basis;
- Though tiring and hard work, it was very successful by many measures, including and especially for the ACT.
The ACT Contingent comprised -
- 60 adults within troops, 12 Contingent team members, 2 Venturers, Rovers, and other adults;
- Each of these people accumulated many hours during -
- The 12 day event;
- Preparation activities including - Get togethers, e.g. Troop development including camps; Onsite visits to prepare, e.g. Radio station and activities; Pre and post equipment pack and unpack; Onsite setup and set down; through 2015 and early 2016 Admin, communications, reporting, budgeting.
An average and conservative time for participants would be 16 days each (16 days x 24 hours = 384 hours).
Total ACT effort for these people is - 80 x 383 = 30720 hours, or 3840 standard days, or 10.5 years without a break!
The ACT championed what Messages of Peace is all about.
