450 Saplings, One Vision: Growing a Greener Future
Our motivation was to restore a fire-damaged area and contribute to a greener, healthier environment for future generations. As Scouts and Y-VIA members, we wanted to turn our sense of environmental responsibility into meaningful action by planting and caring for 450 saplings. We were also inspired by our school’s Golden Jubilee vision to leave a lasting positive legacy for the community and nature.
The project was carried out in collaboration with the Divisional Forest Office, Thimphu, Department of Forest and Park Services, and YDF as part of our school’s Golden Jubilee celebration. A one-acre fire-damaged area was adopted for restoration, where our Principal, teachers, and Y-VIA student volunteers planted 450 saplings under the leadership of Sir Pem Tshering. The participating Y-VIA members will regularly care for and monitor the saplings until they mature, contributing to ecosystem.
The project taught us the importance of teamwork, environmental responsibility, and long-term commitment. We learned that restoring nature requires not only planting trees but also caring for them consistently. It also strengthened our leadership, cooperation, and sense of responsibility towards our community and the environment.
