The 45 days retreat of monks at kidheykhar shedra
What inspired us to start this project was our desire to serve the monks during their 45-day retreat. As Scouts, we wanted to put the spirit of service into action by offering our time and helping wherever we were needed. Seeing the amount of work involved in supporting the retreat motivated us to step forward and contribute in our own small way.
During the 45-day retreat at Kidheykhar Lungtok Choki Gatshel Shedra, total of 8 scouts from Mongar Middle Secondary School volunteered for the event. We started at 6:00am sharp starting off with cleaning the shedra surroundings, cutting vegetables, making lunch for the monks and faculty, washed dishes, and carried supplies. Through this service, we developed teamwork, responsibility, and practical experience
Through this project, we learned the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and helping others. The young volunteers got applicable skills learning from each other and by interacting with the monks and faculty. Moreover we were granted audience by His Eminence the Khenpo of the shedra.
